Course Objective: • To inculcate an analytical approach towards musicological texts. • To study the contribution of legendary scholars of Indian music and make an informed analysis and a comparative study of the textual tradition of that period with contemporary Hindus
Learning Outcome: • To learn different ideas regarding musicological studies of Indian music. • Ability to develop a critical approach towards Music theory and understand the co-relationship between performance practice and musicology.
Detailed study of the following texts:
Natyashastra, Naradiya Shiksha, Brihaddeshi, Sangeet Ratnakar, Raag Tarangini, Swaramela Kalanidhi, Sangeet Parijat, Raag Vibodh, Raag Tatwa Vibodh, Chaturdandi Prakashika, Abhinava Raag Manjari.
