Course Objective: The aim of this course is to impart required knowledge and understanding among the students the various operations research techniques used in business decisions and management.
Learning Outcome: After studying this course, the students are expected to understand the basic concepts of operation research and its significance towards business decision making process as well as to develop required knowledge and understanding on Linear Programming, Game theory Transportation problem, Assignment Problem and their applicability in business decisions.

Course Contents
Unit 1: Introduction to Operations Research (Lectures: 10)
Introduction, Advent & Scope of Operations Research Techniques, Importance of OR in Business Decision Making, Classification of Operations Research Models, Methodology of Operations Research.
Unit 2: Linear Programming (Lectures: 10)
Concept and Importance of Linear Programming, Formulation & Solution of Simple Linear Programming Problem through Graphical & Simplex Method.
Unit 3: Transportation Problem (Lectures: 15)
Transportation Problem: Introduction, Methods for Finding Initial Solution, North West Corner Method; Least Cost Method; Vogel’s Approximation Method, Optimality Test, Stepping Stone Method; Modified Distribution Method (MODI)
Introduction & Mathematical Models for Assignment Problems, Hungarian Method of Assignment Problem, Special Cases in Assignment Problems: Maximization Case in Assignment Problem and Prohibited Assignment, Unbalanced Assignment Problem.
Unit 4: Network Analysis (Lectures: 15)
Network Analysis: Basic Concept, Network Construction; Critical Path Analysis- Forward Pass, Backward Pass and Float of an Activity and Event, Critical Path, Estimation of Project Completion Time.
Unit 5: Game Theory (Lectures: 10)
Concept of Game Theory, Two-person zero sum game pay off matrix, Pure strategies; games with saddle point, The rule of dominance, Mixed strategies; games without saddle point.
